To make things simple, the term refers to the plan about where the company would like to become for the next few years or so. The plan also includes details about how they are going to do it and how to determine whether or not the organization has indeed achieved its plan. This is different from a business plan because the latter focuses only on a particular product, project or service while strategic planning is concentrated on the entire organization. One company may have a varied set of perspectives, approaches and models used here because these things will usually depend upon the nature of the company's leadership, the complexity of the environment, organization culture, size, expertise and many others. Others use goals based strategic planning models while others would prefer issues based. There are also other known models such as scenario and organic. It is important for you to understand the different types of models that you can use in strategic planning. If you intend to exploit goals based planning methodology, this is all about the objectives of the company as the name suggests. Right now, this is the most common approach wherein organizations start with the mission, vision and values. Then, they will link the goals toward the mission and the strategies will help in achieving those goals. Action planning is involved here where the planners will have to specify the person who will perform a particular action and when it will be performed. Issues based type of strategic planning starts with the task of examining the issues that the organization is currently facing. The strategies will then be utilized in order to address those issues and the action plans will be developed. On the other hand, organic typically begins with the organization articulating the vision and its values. Later on, the action plans will be used to attain the vision without forgetting to adhere to the values of the company. Now, if you have selected the most appropriate approach for our business and you have implemented the plan well, there is no doubt that you will be able to experience tons of strategic planning benefits. This task serves different purposes within the company including the fact that this helps in clearly defining the main intentions of the organization. Plus, this aids in the realization of the goals that can really be accomplished. Objectives are consistent with the corporate mission and everything is defined within a time frame that is dependent on the capacity of the company particularly in the implementation process. One of the most essential phases of strategic planning is the preparation stage. During the strategic planning preparation, you should be able to keep the organizational perspectives. You should not actually worry if the plan that you have for your organization seems like it is about o fail. With experience, you will be able to acquire the skill in creating strategic plans that work.
