For several years, the alignment of strategies only took place in a single department of a company. As the years progressed, the businessmen have become wiser and they had realized that there is a need to spread the use of performance management throughout the entire company. Today, every division within the whole organization will have to give focus on the strategies, goals and the performance of the business on various degrees. However, this is easier said than done and most of the time companies have a hard time especially with regards to performance management. One of the main problems here is that the broader utilization of performance management is not the norm within that particular enterprise. Therefore, the result here is that the organization finds it really tough to align strategies with goals. According to recent surveys, the chief reward that businesses would like to acquire from their performance management efforts is the alignment of strategies. This is because this act is critical to the success of the company. If you are not able to align strategies with goals and the performance of your company, it is inevitable that you will be facing increased inefficiencies and risks. Aside from that, there will be lower chances of reaching optimal execution within the organizational strategy. The alignment of strategies can come in different ways depending upon the preferred methodology of those who are working in the organization. You can have your own model but it is essential that you understand that everything starts with the CEO of the company and it does not end there. Performance management typically involves all the people in the organization. The CEO will need to talk with the senior executives so that they can formulate the objectives that are derived from the goals of the CEO himself. Then a strategic plan will be formed along with the understanding that there should be subordinate goals which will support the main objective of the company. The alignment of strategies can increase the success of the organization because it helps in translating the high level objectives into a more focused set of performance measures which have been cascaded properly within the whole company. There are four ways in getting the performance and goals aligned with strategy. The first one is for every department to be involved, which is definitely not easy especially if your business has multiple units and divisions. Nevertheless, a shared performance management scheme on all the departments will help avoid bottlenecks and work redundancy. The next one here is the workforce wherein everyone who is part of the business should get involved in the performance management process. Their own goals should be aligned with the corporate wide strategy. You must verify that they understand what the strategic plans and actions are and that there should be similar measures linked to their performance and goals. Third is the financial performance wherein the financial measures should be carefully linked with the people who are in charge of this aspect. Finally, it is all about the system which should get all the support needed from the entire organization.
