It is of utmost importance that all employees (in every organization) attend at least the basic balanced scorecard training to grasp how the framework functions. Balanced scorecard is one of the most effective tools of strategic performance management that helps increase productivity and enhance growth rate throughout the organization. Although it is imperative to utilize key performance indicators for developing an effective balanced scorecard framework for an organization, the number of these indicators should (ideally) not increase five. Since it is a strategic tool; it is important that the personal tasked with developing and delivering the balanced scorecard training is a certified professional. However, a large number of organizations prefer that the training module be developed and delivered to employees, for ensuring their buy-in, by a manager or a team of managers who are the balanced scorecard champions in the organization. One of the most effective strategies used for balanced scorecard training is using strategy maps. Strategy maps are a visual representation of the vision, mission and goals an organization wants to attain both in the short and longer term also known as perspectives. The four perspective of the balanced scorecard are customer, financial, internal business processes and growth and learning. These four perspectives ensure that the managers have a holistic review of performance and do not base their decisions on inaccurate or misleading information. Managers have also used SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) Analysis to determine the critical objectives before gearing the organization for achieving them. The next step would be to define key performance indicators for measuring performance against each of the above mentioned objectives. As discussed above, limiting the number of key performance indicators allows managers and resources to remain focused and increase effectiveness and efficiency. In the cut throat competition of today's world, balanced scorecard training is not just an option anymore. It is a vital part of continuous improvement both for employees as individuals and departments and organizations as a whole since it an established fact that organizations that do not develop and innovate at a rapid pace can and will not survive in the short run. Thus, the importance of adopting balanced scorecard framework and organizing balanced scorecard training for employees at all levels is the need of the hour. The problem faced on most companies is that there never seems to be knowledge and resources available for everyone to improve awareness and fulfill the ever increasing demand for information about the balanced scorecard technique and balanced scorecard training. One of the most important components of the balanced scorecard training is basic understanding of various concepts in (simple terms) such as; vision, mission, strategy, perspective, objective, measure, targets and initiative etc. Thus, it is important that all employees be given the balanced scorecard training even if their supervisors think that their time can be utilized in something more productive.
