These examples will help them understand the process easily. 6 sigma has two general methods: the DMAIC which stands for define, measure, analyze, improve and control and the DMADV which means measure, define, design, analyze and verify. The former is used in projects that the main purpose is for the advancement of a business process that already exists while the latter is for projects that aspire for making new process designs and products. 6 sigma project examples using the DMAIC method is more commonly used than the other method because all companies and industries seek for the improvement of their business processes. It is necessary for a business manager to know and master this method. The next few paragraphs will show some examples of DMAIC projects. The first example of 6 sigma subject is about the people selection. This is all about choosing the right people with high levels of performance to perform the job. In using the DMAIC method, the D or the Define state here is the difference of the performance of different employees on sales. The M or measure states that employees on the lower levels of performance are ten times larger in volume to those people with high levels of performance. It is then stated to the A or Analyze phase that the factor that affects the performance of employees includes training, education, sales area, profiles, time in job and product line. The I or Improve phase suggests that the company should be able to know and recognize the top 72 & of employees with high performances. And lastly, the Control or C phase states that the company should monitor the profiles of new employees and to continuously monitor the employees' performance levels. Another example using DMAIC method of 6 sigma is the project regarding cycle time of a rail car. This project is all about the excess charges for delivery delays. The letter D that stands for define here states that paying extra charges on delays of rail cars should be removed. The measure or the M on this project is paying rail cars' demurrage that is more than four days. A that stands for Analyze suggested the following factors: switch engine schedule, rail car traffic, operating company procedures, rail company operating rules, and spotting procedures. Next is the letter I for Improve which stated that the sequences in handling full and empty cars should be changed. Change the times of loading into less than 2 hrs. The result should be no over charging of demurrage charges. The C for Control finally stated that the companies of rail cars should change their procedures and the operating company should change the scheduling practices. Meanwhile, examples from DMADV methods are commonly found at any product or process that you are providing for the customer. This can probably be a new feature like an ebill pay, a new service like six sigma consulting, a new automobile or a new website.
