Navigation: All Balanced Scorecard Articles > General A company incentive is one of the most sought after rewards after a difficult quarter. One reward that would mean the most is giving incentive KPIs for good performance. Check additional information about Incentive KPI. In the world of business, key performance indicators (KPIs) show the quality of how employees perform their work for each quarter. It would certainly be a boost of morale for the employees if they were given incentive KPIs to reflect their good performance. This way, they will be encouraged to keep performing well. This reward system takes the form of recognizing the good performance of employees. Usually, the major complaint of the members of a working organization is that they feel unappreciated or that the management seldom notices their good performance. In worse cases, the management keeps demanding improvement in performance without even considering the minute improvements that would eventually lead to a major boost in company productivity. Studies show that when a person's efforts are recognized and appreciated, they feel more motivated and encouraged to perform their best at all times. This, compared to a setting where a person is encouraged to perform well, however, without any form of affirmation, appreciation, or recognition, the former case will not only improve the morale of the employee; it will improve his overall being and capacity as a worker. This will ultimately redound to the benefit of the company itself. Employees can be likened to children - just without the part where they throw tantrums and hold their breath until they get what they want. Employees perform best when appreciated, in the same way that children are able to exert their best efforts in school when appreciated by their parents and teachers. This makes them feel that they actually belong to an organization that cares for them and knows their contributions. It makes them feel important. It makes them feel wanted. This is the best reward the management can give their employees. Of course, this is not to mean that they would prefer recognition instead of their regular salaries but - you know what it means. Psychologists agree that the reward system is one of the most effective conditioning techniques to adjust a person's behavior. This is because nobody dislikes receiving a reward, and receiving one will naturally bring about the expectation - or anticipation, if you will - of another reward in the future. Thus, the person will continue doing what he did when he received the first reward and may eventually improve his work in anticipation of a greater reward. This principle is true in the world of business. Employees work best when motivated and encourage. It is not just a fact - it is common sense. When the management finally recognizes and appreciates the efforts of an employee, even the one at the very bottom of the organizational structure, there is no telling what this particular employee will do in order to improve his capability for his own benefit and that of the company. By giving incentive KPIs to reflect the good performance of an employee for the whole world to see, a sense of pride and accomplishment in the part of the employee is created. This sense is enhanced even more if this recognition of good performance is done in the presence of his co-employees.
