The first one is to identify the hazards, which means that you have to look and monitor the workplace that you have provided for your staff. At some point in time, we neglect the possible threats that might lead to accidents especially if we are present in that area almost everyday. To identify risks, you must walk around, talk to your employees about what they have observed in the workplace and you might also want to look into the past accident or sick records. Make sure that you not only think about the present but also the future hazards on the health of the workers. Next step is to know who might be injured and how. This will aid you in managing the risk better. You do not have to list down the names of the specific people; rather jot down those groups that you think might be in harm's way. These may include the contractors, the visitors, members of the public, cleaners, maintenance workers and others. Third is to evaluate the risks and make a decision on the precautions. Now that you know what the hazards are, it is time for you to do things that are reasonably practicable as required by the law. Take some time to establish precautions by asking yourself whether you can get rid of the risks or not or if you can control it. If it is the latter, you can attempt to switch to other less risky activities or even prevent access to the area that might cause harm. Step four is to record what you have observed and implement them. This is also where you have already set up the precautions and list down the things that has happened ever since you have executed your plan against risks. Last step is to review and update your risk assessment methodology. You can always change the way you implement your risk assessment process according to what the environment or the period calls for.
