This is mainly due to the fact that DVDs use very advanced technology - technology that is still quite expensive. Even though the DVD is quite expensive compared to cinema and CDs, people all over the world still prefer to watch their entertainment movies on their DVD players. In recent years, there has been a shift in preference in the US market alone. The rest of the whole world is following as well.

Most advertisers would find it very easy to market DVDs. It is because the quality of DVD is world renowned. Nevertheless, these people still use scorecards to properly determine the productivity of a particular DVD movie or TV series. The quality of the DVD might be excellent but the movies itself may be extremely distasteful to the audience. This is the main target of the scorecards. It is to determine whether the target audience will buy the movie or not. Why do they need to know this? The answer to this question boils back down to economics. Remember that the cost of producing a DVD is expensive. Any company would want to know first whether mass producing a film in DVD format will be marketable or not.

So, how do they apply scorecards when it comes to DVDs? The application of scorecards to DVD movies is just like the same way as business related scorecards. There are particular metrics that need to be attained in order for the said movie to pass. The factors for the scorecard for each will be the same as with any other movie or production. However, there is one slight but important varying factor, which is the target audience.

The target audience may indeed vary from movie to movie but the lessons taken from such scorecards can be used for future purposes. The data from such metrics can be used to determine any specific changes in the scorecards for future movies or production. There is no doubt that using metrics can help the entertainment industry the viability and profitability of any entertainment venture, like movies or TV series. More importantly, DVD advertising indicators can help advertisers plan and determine the content and features for any campaign. Without such scorecards, such endeavors would be quite difficult to plan.
