Key performance indicators are often utilized by businesses, government agencies and non profit organizations so that they can monitor their performance by means of comparing the business data with the strategic goals. They are the central means of providing the business intelligence of your company. In this case, they are deemed as one of the most important tools in determining and achieving success for the company's objectives. Even though you are already generating a lot of reports each day, you still have to add one more in your company data and that is the indicators report.

The indicators report is essential and this is why this is done regularly. There are two kinds of this report. The first one is for the KPI plan and the second one is for the KPI implementation. In the stage of planning the indicators, there are experts that should be assigned to put forward the gathered data as to what indicators should be utilized. Meanwhile, in the implementation, this is the time when you will generate the report so that the executives or the managers of the company will know the status of the project and the company as well.

There are different ways of presenting the KPI report and this would depend greatly on the institution creating it. However, it is standard that there is the title page, which contains the title, the date or the period and the group that is responsible for the report generation. It is also common to find the acknowledgement page wherein the people who have worked together with the group responsible of the report will be mentioned. Next would be the foreword, which is given by the person who is in charge of the KPIs. This part contains some of the necessary information about the KPIs and why they are being used in the company. Apart from this, it should also include the effect of the KPIs whether positive or negative.

Now, if you will be using the indicators report as a guide for the people who are working in your company, it should comprise of the purpose, the definition of terms and the KPI levels. This way, everyone will completely understand the whole essence of these indicators. For instance, if you are working on a construction company, you can say that the purpose of the KPIs is to help you in delivering projects on time, free from errors or defects, products that are on budget, efficient and should be given to them safely. On the other hand, if you will be focusing on your regular clients, you can include KPIs that can help you reduce the costs of the projects as well as the times when they are produced.

The key performance indicators report is created so that the business owners will know the present state of their company along with the health of the indicators. It is important that they have robust sets of KPIs so that they will have no problems with regards to the flexibility of the indicators. This will strengthen all the areas of the business and thus, decision making is successful.
