Every business is individual, and it is unreasonable to treat IT specialist and logistics manager in the same way. Thus, when evaluating efficiency of personnel in various industries it is important to take into account nature and features of a particular business. In this article we will talk about HR KPIs in logistics business. First off, it needs saying that logistics services are in a great demand these days. Business has become international and that is why tons of cargos are shipped every day. This makes business management fast and efficient. Sure thing, shipment services and logistics must be efficient as well. In order to evaluate logistics performance and align logistics goals with company strategy, use of Balanced Scorecard is highly recommended. Management of personnel in logistics should be based on the fact that all delays and later deliveries will affect efficiency of business. Thus, for example, employee lateness is a very important key performance indicator in human resource balance scorecard and logistics. Imagine that a logistics manager has come late to work. Trucks, trains, ships and airplanes will never wait. Thus, employee lateness may result in late delivery or in failed shipments. This leads to enormous losses and fines imposed on a logistics company. New hire turnover rate will also demonstrate efficiency and professionalism of human resource managers. It is not a secret that when a company hires a young employee it spends some money to educate him or her. If such an employee leaves within half a year it means that company suffers losses, i.e. the money spent for education. Besides, high new higher turnover rate signals about dissatisfaction of personnel with compensation plans or working conditions. Since professionalism is extremely important in logistics services education and coaching is often quite expensive. Average travel costs for logistics managers should be always thoroughly calculated. Of course, logistics employees should use convenient transport means, but at the same time the company should not spend too much. Employee satisfaction and organization climate are another key performance indicators which are widely used in human resource management evaluation. It is not a secret that satisfied employees have satisfied customers. A happy customer is likely to become a loyal customer who is ready to buy from the company again. Also, satisfied employees show their top performance. This concerns both individual performance and group performance. In general, Balanced Scorecard is not only used to evaluate performance and puts strategy into action. This tool is great to be used to align strategies of different levels. Even if logistics department seems to be doing OK, its goals and measures may not be aligned with the company strategy.
