Gaining competitive advantage is one of the main goals of a business endeavor particularly because rivals appear every now and then. With PEST competition analysis, you can evaluate and assess your challengers without difficulty. Check additional information about PEST competition.

Two of the most sensitive business environment factors are the customer base and the market. These typically depend on the stability of the country in which the businesses reside in. In accordance to that, the viability of the company in a particular country will depend on the present and potential profitability of the firm which has a direct influence on the investment policies and the workforce. These elements can be observed through the use of the PEST analysis which pertains to political, economic, social and technological assessments. The PEST analysis is a great tool that can help evaluate the external condition of the elements mentioned. Now, one of the forces that should be analyzed using PEST is the business rivalry. PEST competition analysis can be quite useful especially in examining the various forces that have a huge impact on the contest amongst businesses.

There are five forces that can be assessed through the use of PEST competition. The first one is about the degree of rivalry. Using the PEST competition method, you will be able to determine the level of the value created by the organization and will be dispersed in the course of head to head competition. In general, this is a common occurrence in the industries wherein there are substitute product threats as well as the existence of buyer and supplier powers in the market.

The next is the threat of entry in which in the competition theory model, it is clear that both existing and potential competitors drive the average profitability of the industry. Through PEST competition, you will be able to analyze the market entry barriers that might cause the new entrants not to show up. New businesses take on different forms but the entry barriers are quite difficult to be broken into especially since it is complicated for an outsider to duplicate the current business' position economically. Using the PEST competition, you can evaluate the most common obstacles here which are the intrinsic physical and legal hindrances.

Business rivalry analysis will not be complete without the threat of substitutes, which is affected by the changes in prices or costs. A customer may switch from one product to another based upon different aspects including need substitution (i.e. email for fax) and generic substitution (i.e. travel companies vs. video suppliers). Fourth force is the power of the buyer, which influences the suitability of the value created by the market in the competition theory model. Customer size and focus are the two main determinants for buyer power. Most grocery stores experience this because there usually are only a few large businesses in this arena.

Finally, supplier power should be evaluated through the PEST competition in which this is the mirror image of the fourth mentioned force since it focuses on the relative size and focal point of the suppliers in relation to the industry. If the suppliers are able to charge customers expensively, this means that there is high supplier power and low buyer control. With the PEST competition analysis, you can determine the nature of competition within the industry that you would like to examine.
