We have all heard so much talk about how Indicator Development can be a helpful tool in evaluating our business. But what is it really and what does it do? Check additional information about Indicator Development.

An indicator development is helpful to any business or non profit organization because it measures some trends that can be helpful for the progress of the group. One good example of an indicator development which is being measured is in the case of non profit organizations. These groups measure what is known as community indicators. These are measurements which provide data regarding past and current trends. After these data is extracted, the community leaders and planners are able to use it as a basis for making new decisions that will affect the future results. At the same time, these indicators give insight into the total direction of a community. It signifies whether or not it is improving, declining, staying afloat, or a combination of the three.

As a whole, an indicator development is being used in order to depict the interaction between economic, social, and environmental factors that can affect a group. This can either be used for a business, organization or a community. In the case of community indicators, non profit organizations are mainly the ones who conduct them if they want to survey a community. But there are also certain times that the public sector uses them.

If you are wondering when these community indicators started, they have been around since 1910. The Russell Sage Foundation was the first ones to conduct a survey for measuring recreational, educational, industrial and other factors of a local community. The processes which were used by this foundation once again emerged during the 1990s and that is when people starting knowing publicly about them. The difference today is that the usage of these indicators not only isolated factors. Today, these indicators are being used to consider the totality of a community's well being. After a decade since they were first introduced, community indicators now represent a valuable instrument that is being used to evaluate planning and improve monitoring.

In order to come up with information, the Russell Sage Foundation made use of more than two thousand local surveys which were based on recreation, education, crime, public health, and general conditions of the society. From these early indicators, the Kelburn Workshop started to discuss the importance of the surveys which were conducted. It then came into a conclusion of the five top priorities which should not be disregarded.

These factors included the following:

Health- this is important in order to stabilize population growth as well as the individual's ability to function regularly on a daily basis.

Literacy, education and skills- In its own, an individual's availability and educational level is already an indicator. This is because it contributes to an increased social and individual choice. In terms of a better democracy and governance, it is considered as a prerequisite.

Choice, democracy, and participation- This is an important factor to be considered as the political process can inhibit or enable development. In order to articulate social goals, the importance of good government and suitable democratic institutions should not be disregarded.

The last two factors that complete the five include technology and income and economic welfare. Like the earlier factors, they are part of what make the whole information complete. And when these factors are considered, a proper indicator development can be concluded.
