Aside from that, you may also have to merge the copies of the document into a single file. That can be quite a challenge but we can always make things easier through the tools for version compare. There are two main methods for version compare. The first one is to make use of Word itself. You can easily compare two document versions here because of its Compare Side by Side feature. Also, you can use this application so that you can merge the documents into the third version. If Word finds differences between the document versions that you have, those will be displayed in the third for tracked changes. In this case, you will find it easier to review the changes that have been made so that you can easily reject or accept them. However, there are a lot of users that complain about this feature saying that they are having problems with it particularly because it can be tricky at times. You will have to make sure the Word differentiates the files in correct order. If done backwards, the additions may become deletions or vice versa. If you are not used to using Word for such task, you can always make use of file comparison software. This is a third party application that you can download either for free or with a price. Do not worry because most of them are really effective and can help you perform a version compare on all your documents without difficulty. There are a great number of tools that you can acquire that only work with ASCII files. Therefore, you will have to convert your Word document into ASCII first. If you would not like to do this, there are certain applications that are available today that support comparisons of different formats including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and HTML among others. Using these pieces of file comparison software is easy. Generally, all you have to do is to open the files that you need to compare. If the program that you have only works with ASCII format, you can convert it by means of opening it in Word then click on File and select Save As. You can alternatively press F12 to open the Save As dialog box. In the "Save as type" area, you can change it to "Text Only with Line Breaks." It is advised that you change the filename of the converted file. Do this to all the documents that you will be comparing. On the other hand, if the comparison tool that you have supports Word, you are not required to do this evidently. With such tools, version compare is really easy and can be finished in a few minutes.
