So what is kaizen really? The main kaizen definition is that this is a Japanese tradition which is modified by the Japanese culture to best suit the business environment that they are presently in. Literally, this is a Japanese phrase which translates to "becoming good through change." Therefore, we can conclude that kaizen is actually a method that consists of restructuring and managing each and every business aspect in order to assure the company that it is at its peak efficiency at all times. So, to understand the answer to the question "what is kaizen" even more, we can talk about the five primary elements in which this is basically founded upon. First is all about the quality circles which mean that there are groups that would meet regularly within the firm so that the members can all discuss the quality levels. These are concerned on all the aspects of the operations of the company. The second element is the improved morale, which believes that there should be strong morale in the workforce. This is considered a crucial step towards achieving long term effectiveness and efficiency as well as productivity. Kaizen as a Japanese strategy is set as a foundational activity in order to maintain the constant contact with the morale of the employees. Third is all about teamwork, which denotes that a strong company should be able to pull together the employees so that every task will be successful. The main aim here is to use kaizen so that the company will be able to obtain the help that it needs for the employees and the management team as they look at themselves and their activities as a whole. They will understand that they should work as a team not as competitors. Fourth is personal discipline wherein the team cannot succeed unless they work with one another. In addition, every member of the team should know their capabilities and hone them by themselves. There should also be a commitment by each employee for personal discipline. Lastly, there should be suggestions for improvement. Each member should provide their own feedback and the management should give assurance that problems are considered and addressed.
