In any company dealing with computers and all sorts of files for its operation, it comes as a necessity to do modified data backup. We all know how important it is to implement security measures so as not to lose any data that we handle. After all, these classified files are all geared towards the success of our company. So, you can just imagine how problematic it can be to lose all of these files from one of your computers, let alone all of the computers hooked up in your network!

The great thing about this is that there are several options when it comes to doing data backup. Each of these methods have its fair share of advantages and disadvantages so it is important to weight these out. These different types include Full Backup, Mirror Backup, Differential Backup, and Incremental Backup. The best way to go about the selection process is to find the method that suits the needs of your company.

So, how do you go about it? The first thing you should do is check just how much data your company handles each workday. When just the minimum is processed in a day, then it would be better to conduct the full backup every day. After all, since there is not much data to process, then backing up would not take too long. With the full backup, your files would also be compressed and you are also given password protection. The mirror backup, on the other hand, pretty much works like its full counterpart. It is just that the files would not be compressed anymore, and you would not have password protection as well.

However, if your company handles a lot more data in a workday, then the better option to consider is differential backup. Since so many files are to be backed up in a workday, then it would be better to just conduct the full backup every Friday night. Differential backup should then be conducted on a certain weeknight of your choice. With the differential backup, only the files that have been created and have undergone modification since the last full backup will be processed. Not much time would then be utilized for this particular type. The restoration of files is also very easy here as well. All you have to do is prepare 2 tapes - the first is for the restoration of the recent full backup, and the second is use for the restoration of the differential backup that is about to take place.

But if the data your company handles is still too much, then go for incremental backup. This works just like the differential, in the sense that you still do a full backup Friday nights and an incremental on certain weeknights. The difference lies in the fact that only files that have been modified since the last full and incremental backup will be processed.

Choosing amongst the different methods to do modified data backup should then be based on the needs of the company as well as the nature of its operations.
