They are excellent indicators of how well or how terrible the company is presently doing. In essence, the KPI or key performance indicator is a quantifiable measure plotted on a balanced scorecard. It is specifically tailored according to what an organization wants to achieve. In other words, the KPIs are designed around the objectives and goals of an organization. The whole organization will strive to hit the goals of the KPIs but there will be slight changes of these indicators for every department or line of business in a company. The very most important contribution of the KPIs to the company is alignment and direction. It will ensure that everyone in the company is going exactly to the same road. Any slacker will be automatically detected by the system itself. The great advantage of discussing KPIs is that an organization will have the ability to change the KPIs themselves constantly. This is very important for companies that are rapidly changing because they need to adapt quickly in order to stay competitive. Most organizations hold meetings every month. Most of the time, they hold these kinds of meetings just to talk about KPIs. What they usually do in their meetings is that they assess how the earlier months' indicators faired. They will also assess if the same indicators are still necessary for the upcoming months or if they need to make some slight changes. By the way, these meeting are sometimes done on a quarterly basis. It really depends oh how fast a company is evolving. The discussion of KPIs is always necessary because not everyone in your organization will be able to interpret them correctly. Even though the KPIs were created in way where in everyone can understand them, there is still a slight chance for misinterpretation or mistakes. It is very important to iron out these problems. Talking about them is a very good way of making everyone understand the importance of KPIs. Encourage your listeners to ask questions and always make sure to inform them that the KPIs will also rate how efficient they are. Everyone in our society is in the habit of measuring each others' capabilities. We do this so that we will know how to achieve our own personal goals. Now with a big company, it is exactly the same. However, there is a big difference between an individual and a company. The differences are in terms of size and goals but the rest is almost exactly the same. An individual is constantly changing his objectives from time to time and also attempting to hit the metrics. It is just the same with a company.
