Now, move your mouse to the drop down list that says "Files of Type" which is at the bottom part of the dialog box. Click on the arrow that corresponds to that option and then choose "Document Templates." Now you can save your template file with your desired filename. Make sure that the extension is ".dot." Once you are finished, you can close Word. After that, go to the Documents and Settings folder and locate the Templates directory once again. Open that folder and click on the file named "Normal.dot." Delete the said file and then select the file that you have newly created. It is often recommended that you provide a name that is easy to remember so that you can quickly locate the file on your directory. Rename the file now with "Normal.dot." Now, when you open Word, your new template will be displayed. It is not overly complicated when you want to replace Word template. Just make sure that you follow the steps given above and the template document will not be deleted or damaged. To build a useful template, it is necessary that you have at least basic knowledge regarding fundamental formatting, styles, headers and footers or sections, numbering and legal documents creation.
