This is exactly what you would need to ensure that these key performance indicators are put to good use and actually drive results and forward progress.

So, the most basic incarnation of a tool for this purpose would be a database for holding KPIs, a system to collect relevant data, and a system to compare the two and display the results. This may sound simple enough on paper, but the details of the implementation and how everything should meld together can often be overwhelming. This is why the use of computers is practically a must in business intelligence nowadays.

The best way to choose which tool to use would be, of course, to try each option out and see how they compare in practice. But the pool of candidates can be narrowed by considering what your organization really needs. What kinds of KPIs do you use most often or are most important?
