The four areas target specific needs to focus on to excel in your business or personal life. Check additional information about BSC best practices. In business, it is imperative to keep focused on the reasons you started a business in the first place. One way to do this is to use BSC best practices. This is a measurement tool that will help you maintain a clear view of your business goals. This system was developed by Dr. Robert Kaplan and Dr. David Norton not only to measure your business targets and performance, but also as a means of operating a communication system within your organization. There are four basic areas in this system: internal business processes, customers, learning and growth, and financial. How often do we hear about internal problems within a company, such as managers and engineers who cannot see eye to eye, or staff personnel complaining about line personnel? There are a million ways your business can stagnate or go under - however, you can avoid them and achieve success by using these four perspectives. In the corporate world, there are several measures you should have to establish the proper internal business processes. Initially, you should have your Standard Operating Procedures or a company manual that all employees should conform to. In fact, all employees should sign a contract that will bind them to strictly adher to these policies. This practice works twofold: one, it protects your business from falling apart should an emergency arise, or a position is unexpectedly vacated. Two, it protects you from lawsuits from your employees because by signing this contract, they agree to abide by your rules, assuming of course, that the content of your manual falls within the law. Realizing your business goals is possible. However, you need to have an excellent customer relations department that will monitor complaints and feedback, performance of frontline personnel, and most importantly, proper and speedy communications with disgruntled customers. To be able to measure financial success, a solid accounting foundation is essential. Any business entity should have its basic check and balance system to avoid irregularities. In family corporations, it is very tempting to go easy on accounting procedures. Avoid falling into this trap because, assuming you plan to grow as a company, if your financial foundation is weak, your company will fail to achieve maximum growth. Just like in personal growth, each one in a company should be encouraged to grow and expand their knowledge in their own field. It is essential to keep abreast of the latest trends, especially in this computer age when new products, developments, and processes are being introduced into the market. With the world becoming smaller because of the Internet, competition has become much fiercer. By learning and growing individually and as a company through seminars, conferences, and head hunting, you can maintain a solid lead over your competitors. BSC best practices can also apply to your personal life. A balanced human scorecard should include physical health, emotional health, mental health, social health, and spiritual health. Each perspective should be given equal attention to help you achieve personal success. It is also a way to keep yourself from burning out too early in life. If you can achieve a balanced personal life, it will help you when you are in the corporate jungle. You will possess confidence, stability and the drive to move forward in business. Equally, you will be able to adjust to the pace and challenges appropriately. If you are interested in BSC best practices, check this link to find out more about metrics best practices.
