Supervision is an essential when it comes to maintaining performance and productivity in any organization. Any business or enterprise would literally crumble without the presence of supervision. This is why it is also important to measure the efficiency of supervision, and the only way to do this accurately is to make use of supervision metrics.

For a company to be well-guided, it has to come up with what is known as a supervision balanced scorecard or BSC. The metrics or key performance indicators to be plotted out on this tool should then be geared towards measuring leadership and supervision. There are a lot of applications in the market today that you can use to measure supervision. However, before you get to using this piece of software, you need to make sure that the metrics or KPIs that you use in operating the software are indeed useful.

You have to understand that these scorecard indicators do not measure just one particular area of supervision. Rather, this would include just about all aspects, as long as supervision skills are being exercised by any personnel involved in the endeavor. In a nutshell, what this piece of software does is it actually determines whether or not there is good execution of the supervision skills involved.

One effective way to do this is to identify the company's turnover rate. For those who are not familiar with this term, this actually refers to the population of employees who resign from the company. By nature, employees who are not really active in the office setting as well as those whose working relationships with colleagues and superiors are not too close would more likely lose interest in the jobs that they once wanted to have. This dissatisfaction would accumulate, prodding them to look for satisfaction elsewhere. A company that has quite a high turnover rate might want to check out its implementation of supervisory tasks because there just might be trouble there.

Another way to gauge whether or not supervision skills are executed well is to identify the promotion or growth rate of the company's workforce. Any good leader would want for his or her employees to obtain professional growth and this is manifested through promotions. Moreover, an efficient and productive supervisor would not hesitate to provide the needed training sessions, tools, as well as a working environment that is conducive for such an elevation. This way, all would be provided for the employees to develop their skills, abilities, talents, and their sense of confidence and competence. If there is good supervision in the workplace, then there would be more employees promoted to higher and better positions.

Efficient supervision and leadership should not end merely on the table of the supervisor. Rather, supervision skills should be exhibited amongst all members of the workforce as well as with other supervisors in the enterprise. The underlying concept to remember here is collaboration. Any leader can make effective decisions by himself. But a good leader would make decisions in effect of a collaboration with colleagues and fellow supervisors. With the proper supervision metrics all laid out, everything would be set towards the overall goal of productivity and growth for the whole enterprise.
