Where would an airline company be without airlines KPI? These quantifiable figures help shape the growth and productivity of any airline company. Check additional information about airlines scorecard.

There are many industries in the world of business that are volatile, and one of the most volatile ones is the airline industry. This is because there are many problems floating around the industry. Have you experienced the unfortunate event of having your flight canceled for some reason? If you have, then you just might have also witnessed anxious passengers roaming about the airport and the terminal, trying to get to the bottom of the situation. Some passengers would even be angry enough to demand an explanation from the airline management right then and there. This is one scenario any airline company wants to avoid. And for the company to avoid this well, then there is a need to incorporate what are known as airlines KPI, or airlines key performance indicators.

When you manage an airline business, you should understand the importance of thorough planning. In fact, this should be incorporated in the performance management system of your airline company. KPIs are then used in ensuring the proper flow and operations of the airline company's performance management system. Without these indicators, it would be extremely difficult for you to evaluate the company's current strategies, in terms of performance, productivity, and effectiveness. Without KPIs, it would also be difficult for to make apt and efficient decisions for whatever problems that might occur.

For the most part, KPIs are actually generic in form. This means that they generally look the same, and they are applicable to most, if not all, business types all over the world. However, just like any existing rule, there are exceptions that are worth mentioning, especially when it comes to the operations of an airline. There is then a need to customize some KPIs accordingly, so that they would be made more fitting to the industry and the airline company at hand. Generally, the KPIs used in the management of airline companies can be grouped into four categories: flight operations, service indicators, customer perspective, and financial perspective.

Flight operations entail the operational aspects of the airline company. These include the number of flights in a day, the number of passengers in a flight, the number of flights during disagreeable weather, the available flying time, and aircraft utilization. If the figures show that there are many passengers in just a few flights, then this means additional aircrafts are needed. Meanwhile, Service indicators pertain to service-oriented activities. What needs to be measured here is the performance of each employee that belongs to the service department. This aspect also determines how new facilities and equipment improve the services of the airline company, as perceived by customers.

Customer perspective indicators pertain to the passengers of the airline company and how they evaluate the company, as a whole. Surveys or evaluation forms are given to the passengers so that they can share their views. Passengers could be asked how they found the aircrew. Were they pleasant to the passengers? Did they really handle the baggage of the passengers well enough? Were the passengers satisfied with the meals provided?

Financial perspectives pertain to the measures that determine if allocated funds have been used accordingly. The following parameters are used in this aspect: profits, expenses, fuel costs, and revenues. If the bottom line gives you a negative figure, then there is something wrong with the allocation of funds and how they are used.

These are just some of the airlines KPI that are typically used. Whatever KPIs you use, just make sure that these are indeed quantifiable, so as not to defeat the purpose of implementing them in the first place.
