A KPI or a key performance indicator is a measurement that is used to gauge a particular business process. That specific business process is linked to the definite objectives of the company. Typically, the KPIs are monitored over time as a means to keep track of the performance and drive good and smart decisions to help improve that performance. KPIs characteristically have both a status and a goal that will reflect the performance in relation to the objective. On top of that, KPIs in general have dimensions which mean that they can be assessed by any number of distinct dimension attributes that are connected to the KPI. So the main question here is, "How do you create KPI?" Designing the indicators is not that difficult especially if you have gained the knowledge on the step by step formula on how to generate KPI set.

To create KPI, you will need to begin with the business goals. Analyze them properly and with that, you will be able to identify the key processes that you will be measuring using the key performance indicators. Finally, you can check the KPIs and the measures that your organization will be utilizing. The first step to create KPI is to define the problem of the business. This is where you will take a look at the strategic goals which will aid you in determining the major companies that your organization is currently facing. Once the problems have been defined, you can choose which of them you would like to focus on. After that, find out who is responsible for that issue which is needed since he should be involved in the process of creating KPI as measurement system.

The second step is to use the information that you have obtained about the problem. This is where you will list down the processes that are connected to the issue that you want to resolve. Make sure that the list will contain only a few processes ranging from three to five at most. From the list of processes, you should be able to analyze the present tasks so that you can define the probable solutions that you can use. Call on your management team so that you can deliberate about the approaches that should be utilized. Don't forget to eliminate solutions or approaches that are too precise.

Step three is to define the measures for every process. When you create KPI, think about how you can measure the progress of your staff and also be able to discover the success and failure of the measures. This is also where you will establish the desired results and the current state of the problem and/or your business. Fourth is to check whether the measures are indeed measurable. This means that you should be able to obtain a numerical value when you assess the issues of the problem. In addition, you should be able to estimate the present condition of the measures. Finally, to finish the process, you can add more details into the measures. Such details may include measure units, baseline, target values ad min and max values.
