Navigation: All Balanced Scorecard Articles > BSC Guides Most professionals these days have two or more computers that they use at work and at home. And more often than not, they need to synchronize folders in all stations. Check additional information about Synchronize Folders. When you have more than one computer, or if you have more than one device you use for work or for school, such as a handheld, you may have to synchronize folders in all your devices in order to ensure that you have all the resources you need wherever you may be. Synchronizing your documents in all your devices is usually done between a desktop computer and a laptop, a computer and a mobile phone, a computer and a handheld device, or any of the above devices and your portable media player. This is for the simple reason that it is always most convenient and practical if all your files were up to date and always checked up on. Although it has an undeniable benefit, performing synchronizations is usually being neglected by reason of the refusal to sacrifice time and effort. However, if you want to be sure that all your documents are updated, and that you will have everything you need at your fingertips at all times, then get up and learn how to synchronize your files. The most common method of performing this action is by the simple "copy-paste" command in most operating systems in the market. However, if this is to be done over a network; whether through the local area network, Bluetooth, Internet, or through a wireless connection, you must make sure that you are authorized (both legally and virtually) to alter or modify the contents of both or all of the units to be synchronized. Also, make sure that all the involved units are available in the network through sharing. Just open your network connection and you should see all the units and the drives that have been shared. Just open your source directory and copy all your updated documents to the destination directory. By selecting the copy command, you can make successive updates to all destinations without having to execute the copy command again. Just do not hit the refresh button just yet; otherwise, you are going to have to look for all your updated files all over again. Another method is by the use of synchronization software. For Microsoft, the ActiveSync program is the most popular application being used. This is most recommended when synchronizing data between your computer and mobile phone, media player, handheld device, or portable storage medium. Newer versions of synchronization software have the capability to synchronize data between two or more units, making the task easier, more efficient, more economical, and practical. Just make sure that you always back up your files, whether updated or not. To avoid confusion, change the titles of your files in order for you to be able to distinguish those that are updated from those that are not. How to synchronize folders with the use of a portable flash drive is even easier. Just copy all your updated files into your portable storage device and copy them to every device in your station - just make sure that you have an active USB port or its equivalent, a Firewire port, perhaps. Synchronizing your files will ensure that you never experience data loss again. If you are interested in Synchronize Folders, check this link to find out more about merge folders.
