Balanced Scorecard is more complex as it may look. Of course, it employs a very simple principle - evaluation of key performance indicators which are measures that demonstrate company progress or regress in the context of implementing strategic goals. In theory it looks easy but in reality companies are facing various problems and challenges on the way. Indeed, every mistake made at any implementation stage of Balanced Scorecard will inevitably lead to overall failure. It is not a secret that Balanced Scorecard becomes an effective strategic management tool only if applied properly. Sure, BSC maybe used for other purposes, for example as accounting or managerial control tool. At the same time, it is not reasonable to spend so much money and efforts on BSC just to measure performance or control business processes in the company. Balanced Scorecard has another mission - to put company strategy into action. Indeed, this is quite a difficult task but if company top management observes all rules and norms of Balanced Scorecard the system will work at its fullest potential. BSC education is very important even if the company has experience with other performance evaluation tools. Balanced Scorecard differs from seemingly identical management tools. It is the first system that measures nonfinancial indicators which can tell much about what company should expect in future.

Balanced Scorecard coaching is about obtaining theoretical and practical knowledge. It should be noted that both top management and ordinary personnel should undergo such training sessions. There are several reasons to do that. The first is that Balanced Scorecard will never work unless top management is really interested in making an effective use of this system. Top management should inspire ordinary employees by showing contagious enthusiasm. Besides, top managers must be well informed on company strategy, mission and values, otherwise there are very few chances for Balanced Scorecard success. At the same time, Balanced Scorecard will never work unless it is accepted by everyone in the company. That's why ordinary personnel should have at least elementary knowledge on Balanced Scorecard and strategy maps. In other words, company employees should really understand why they use this system and what benefits they will get personally. BSC coaching sessions will explain the issues as well as probably motivate personnel to use Balanced Scorecard for the company benefit.

One of the most important parts of Balanced Scorecard training sessions is explanation of key performance indicators. They should not only be carefully selected, but company personnel must understand how they should be measured and how to use obtained information in decision making. This is to say that, for example, a sales manager should understand the nature of such indicators as number of contacts with customers, sales offers for customer etc. Moreover, he or she should understand how to improve this indicator and what needs to be done to achieve it. Balanced Scorecard training sessions will certainly help obtain necessary knowledge and elementary experience with Balanced Scorecard, reporting and feedback system, decision-making processes etc. Only armed with information and useful tips top management of the company increases chances of Balanced Scorecard success.
